Yoga Nidra: The Magic of the Hypnagogic State

  • BAYoga Berkhamsted 162-166 High Street Berkhamsted, England, HP4 3AP United Kingdom (map)

Yoga Nidra is a deeply restful guided meditation practice that harnesses the power of the hypnagogic state – the 100% natural ‘in-between’ state of consciousness just between sleep and waking. Join Camilla in this spacious, relaxing and tranquil workshop to explore this state for yourself, and its many and profound benefits. These include psycho-somatic relaxation, stress reduction, improved sleep, deepened self-awareness, emotional insight and catharsis and even enhanced creativity. No prior yoga or meditation experience necessary, everyone is welcome!

Originating from yogic traditions and philosophy, Yoga Nidra guides you into a profoundly relaxed state, while drawing awareness to different parts of the body, breath, sensations, emotions and imagery. Though often described as ‘yogic sleep’, yoga nidra is actually about awakening to deeper levels of waking peacefulness, equanimity and calm.

We’ll spend the first hour acclimating to a very deep state of rest and relaxation, giving your mind and body opportunity to release burdens, discover an innate sense of wholeness and wellbeing, and to drop into a state of peace supported equally by ancient meditative tradition and modern neuroscience. You’ll receive a recording of this bespoke practice to take away and use at home.

The workshop will also include some ‘troubleshooting’ exploration of some of the most common (and pesky!) barriers to accessing deep rest on a day to day basis. You’ll have the chance to ask questions, receive individual suggestions for personal practice and make some breakthrough discoveries as to how you can feel better rested on a practical level. We’ll close with a second practice designed to help you personalise a portable sense of deep calm to take with you anywhere, and which you can drop into whenever you need to.
